Doubt in an Uncertain World Sonnet

Our beliefs are just what we think about
Even if they build these thoughts a cathedral
They’re merely thoughts: we can choose to opt out
Belief is freedom for ourselves: simple

If I choose not to believe in magic
Should not spoil your enjoyment of the show
I am an agnostic heckler tragic
Believe in religion: the way you know

The agnostic or atheist’s freedom
To (dis)believe in all your rituals
Is how the God that I doubt made it, son
So we each have “spiritual victuals”

Believing in Yahweh, Allah or Christ
Does not mean that I have to sacrifice

Endless Sonnet

Each wave is identical

Also completely unique

Repetition: practical

Their differences oblique
Each person watching waves

Is completely different

But like banister staves

Cooperate in bent

I sit by the river

Of autos driving by

Observing, I wonder

If there’s a reason why

Why do I consider

The altar of nature?

Abyss Sonnet

Into these temporary abysses

Merrily we fling our bodies & souls

As if this misery would dismiss us

From human’s* self-imposed soul sucking holes

The deeper we venture exploration

The more absence and nothingness we find

The harder it is to play our station

And dream of some mortal human justice

We find within existence’s vortex

Only artifacts of our endurance:

Despair’s abysses will stun the cortex

& synthesize spiritual assurance

Don’t seek the abyss of nothingness yet

Life, humbly-well-lived, will better get

Work Week Sonnet Six

It is only Tuesday
But this week feels agéd
In my soul it’s Thursday
Work amplifies stages

Mistakes continue to
Add to previous weeks
Errors’ blizzards accrue
Making me an antique

The thoughts of so many
So imperfectly said
Begin “the uncanny”
Cluttering in my head

The teaching industry
Simply abuses me

Gratitude Sonnet

rainy chair haiku
I’m eternally grateful for today/
No matter what obstacles it might include/
Whether it is weather or some delay/
Life is all remade by my attitude/

Regardless of the day’s tribulations/
Today is perfect if I can believe/
That friction and woes are good sensations/
To craft the last person I want to leave/

The pebble bothering me in my shoe/
Is there to show me how to slow down some/
Stop: inventory where I’m walking to/
& how the problem is often begun/

Ease and comfort are often distractions/
I’m grateful for my positive actions/
