Wheel of Fortune

The modern wheel of fortune is reserved

For people who are able & willing

To this evil, venal system preserve

Though it is the only planet killing

Ode To Today

In all of my boring redundancies

I continue to see life’s novelties

For humanity’s great insurgencies

Assault me with stunning velocities
This year’s seemingly fascist takeover

Is the Phoenix’s violent escape

From the prison to which we’ve surrendered

Freedom under conformity is fake
Oversimplification of living

Religion’s most palatable optics

Will maintain the laity’s infighting

& keep us from injustice’s topics
Who says that we have to participate

In people’s lives that we disagree with

It seems to this layman the debate’s fake

For most others are neither kin nor kith
Freedom involves the liberty to err

& let your three year old play with pistols

For the racist “right to bear arms” is there

“Well-regulated militia” diapers
If people find their lives so meaningless

That only Afghani heroin works

Let them buy the oblivion painless

& become state sponsored addicted jerks
It the daughter you’ve imperfectly loved

Gets impregnated by the proxy, Pete

She needn’t have all her plans aside shoved

To do Bible interpretation neat
& there’s one more thing I want to say here

You have no right to humanity flee

The automobile is a convenience dear

But we must stop subsidizing driving, see
Cars must bear the cost to society

& the environment their ease destroys

Walks near others evolved humanity

“Ghettos” of “others” are just racist ploys
I’m glad that I said these words to the wise

To my way of thought, life was once better

Think of what freedom means, don’t me despise

Try to be a liberty abettor

News-Feed Sonnet

I look at the news’s shenanigans
With a mixture of my schadenfreude
& lofty arrogant comparisons
I use to bolster my attitudé

All the tragic misfortune of others
“Caught with thirty seven grams of pure dope”
“Mountain of stuffies the baby smothers”
Are enough to give my pointlessness hope

Sometimes we can all agree about things:
The ignorant folly of the lofty
We love when misfortune’s pendulum swings
To sew misery upon the crafty

Newspaper’s endless negativity
Provides my meaninglessness gravity

Snippet of Mortality

Resist or concede it doesn’t matter

Only your mortal coil wanders these cells

Participate or fight: it’s just patter

For the duration these walls are your hells

My (Colorized) Fall

My autumn is Pompeii’s

Mosaics of litter

Disrupting nature’s frays

Hidden beauty glitters

Endless Sonnet

Each wave is identical

Also completely unique

Repetition: practical

Their differences oblique
Each person watching waves

Is completely different

But like banister staves

Cooperate in bent

I sit by the river

Of autos driving by

Observing, I wonder

If there’s a reason why

Why do I consider

The altar of nature?

*The Sympathizer* Haiku Review

IMG_8976

An epic novel
About idealism
& humanity

Viet Than Nguyen’s
Novel *The Sympathizer*
Teaches us to watch
From “Viet Nam’s” war
Back to lust’s true religion
To “his” conception
“He’s” anonymous
Making his particulars
More universal
Just like Ishmael
Anonymous narrator
Waxes Poetic
Racial digression
Of his “miscegenation”
(Muddied purity)
“Not half anything[:]
You’re twice everything”
His mother explained
(Nguyen 134)
Nguyen’s spy novel
Plumbs America’s sad depths
in literature
Ellison, Melville
Hawthorne, Douglass, Poe, Hurston
All resonate here
American id:
“Anti-Transcendentalist?”
“Existentialist?”
“Torture” of “nothing”
Crystallized America
& optimism
(Nguyen 366)
Yankee Paradox:
Our Revolutionary
Impulses now dead
Now America’s
The cruel Torturous Empire
Unseen to itself
A fantastic read
Airy prose is ballasted
With weight of great thoughts
