Gratitude Sonnet (7-24-18)

I need to cultivate more gratitude
By focusing on my life’s abundance
(Now this won’t give me any certitude
It will reduce ego’s interference)

The rainbows climb down from the summer rain
& the flowers sprout from forgotten seeds
My attitude is created the same
By fertilizing life with those good deeds

Creating by alchemy this treasure
Demands wizardry of faith enduring
I’ll never find peace searching for pleasure
But it’s duty’s byproduct assuring

Now I have paid gratitude obeisance
I hope that my faith will have more frequence

Vice Sonnet

When does independence become a sin?

What makes providing for one’s self like pride?

It is clear that the line is very thin

Between virtue & viciousness inside

Deep within the “do for yourself” lies greed

Having to share survival’s accolades

Is the beginning of pride’s erosion’s seed

& just witness: “ease” becomes “sloth’s” bridesmaids

“Gluttony” is a psychological

Reaction to famine irrational

We can’t control the dialogical

Reaction to the inspirational

Vices are virtues shadow inversions

Showing people’s necessities’ diversions

Obscuring With Beauty

People learn things exceedingly slowly

Rarely understanding implications

Situations’ implications wholly

Searching out oversimplifications

Create palatable realities

Of noble & honorable people

Obscuring all of our venalities

We’re praying towards a false clapboard steeple

We resent all the unflattering news

Rejecting both the friendly & snarky

Rather than try to accept painful truths

That might let wisdom’s bold knowledge mark thee

Most people hide from their identity

When it doesn’t their ego benefit

Make America Good Again Sonnet

Hats Read: “make america great again!”

To sell mythical historical lie

Of colonial racism’s given:

Made it easier to be a white guy

“Make America Good Again!” we said

To point out the half truths in the red hats

America’s greatest with unions red

Coal miners, uneducated, earned lots

Our country is being let by its id

Brutally consuming its memory

We’ve become like some six billion ton kid

Rampaging back through bleakest history

Rest assured many will be sent to God

To assuage our damaged egos: that’s sad

Las Vegas Viva Sonnet

What if the shooting was terrorism?

(Albeit subconscious insanity)

Perhaps he was fighting for untruth

That was told to him & he internalized

Perhaps he was fighting for something great

That exists just in imagination

A time when myths were lies we could create

To build a more tractable creation

The America John Wayne has portrayed

With repressed Women, Indians & Blacks

Inspired the purchase of the guns he sprayed

Onto the concertgoers naked backs

We have created a reality

Without meaning besides banality

I Weary of These Infernal Patterns

Doubt in an Uncertain World Sonnet

Our beliefs are just what we think about
Even if they build these thoughts a cathedral
They’re merely thoughts: we can choose to opt out
Belief is freedom for ourselves: simple

If I choose not to believe in magic
Should not spoil your enjoyment of the show
I am an agnostic heckler tragic
Believe in religion: the way you know

The agnostic or atheist’s freedom
To (dis)believe in all your rituals
Is how the God that I doubt made it, son
So we each have “spiritual victuals”

Believing in Yahweh, Allah or Christ
Does not mean that I have to sacrifice
