“Life During Wartime” Sonnet (8)

We are a bloodthirsty nation
Because corporations run things
There will be no innovation
As long as just their money sings

We sacrifice our fair children
At expedience’s altar
Send them overseas to kill “them”
For ideals at which we falter

We are so infected by fear
A fever we perpetuate
We allow no ideas near
Which would let the peace infiltrate

If peace becomes desirable
Wealth will be less venerable
