Corrections-Bus #Haikus

“Corrections” prison/
Buses drive to court each day/
Past my brick building/
#haiku

On The B.Q.E./
That moves cars and trucks past us/
Inmates sight-see life/
#haiku

Homes that can be seen/
from highways are like castles/
In small gold-fish-bowls/
#haiku

From the “Corrections”/
Barred, meshed, inmate transport bus,/
Homes are exotic/
#haiku

Daily before 8/
Rikers* sends tour-buses out/
To see Western Queens/
#haiku
*NYcity jail

What do the driven/
Think of unremarkable/
Streets, seen from jail-bus?/
#haiku

Do small homes & hives/
With terraces, raise regret/
Or confirm choices?/
#haiku

Ere they were inmates/
What did they dream?/
What doors were open?/
Where could they go?/
A life-time of shit jobs,/
Or half-assed school?/
Is there some work/
With both ingredients:/
A measure of Dignity/
& a pinch of Opportunity?/

  1. When I’m out cycling, I will often see the Corrections Bus go by and have asked like you about what they think and feel or how they came to be where they are…but doubt that life will offer any more than they have without extraordinary effort on their part.

  2. Thanks SLP

I’ve gotta give it more of a read.
    Stories, in Haikus?
